Who We Are

Project «NeNorma» is an independent public organisation focused on children's rights. Our activities are aimed at identifying and researching cases of military and political propaganda in educational institutions. Using research and media, we seek to foster public awareness of the inadmissibility of state interference in children's education, the militarization of schools, and the recruitment of children into the military.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we have witnessed numerous instances of school militarization and the involvement of children in war support propaganda. Even children of preschool age are subjected to indoctrination. The normalization of war has become a part of the state's educational policy, which we consider both morally unacceptable and undemocratic.

We are particularly concerned about the propaganda of the Russian military service among schoolchildren. We regard such actions as an element of coercing the children to serve in the armed forces. Underage schoolchildren have not yet a well-developed critical thinking, and aggressive military propaganda focused on such children is unacceptable. In addition to teaching them how to handle weapons and military fundamentals, the Russian education system aims to instill in children the perception of service in the Russian Armed Forces and participation in combat operations as a struggle for justice, love for the homeland, etc.

We have established the main directions of our activities:

  • Monitoring educational institutions and identifying instances of military and political propaganda.
  • Researching cases, methods, and trends of child rights violations in the field of military propaganda.
  • Providing and disseminating informational materials for the media.
  • Advocacy for teachers, children, and parents, and offering support to those affected by political propaganda in educational institutions.

Mission

Our mission is to ensure the protection of children's rights to quality and unbiased education, free from state interference in their upbringing and personal development.

We strive to provide a safe educational environment for children where they can freely grow and develop without being subjected to the influence of intrusive and one-sided information. Additionally, we aim to foster public understanding of the inadmissibility of promoting state ideology and the normalization of war in educational institutions.

Vision

Our vision is to create a society where the state does not interfere with the education and upbringing of children, and does not use its resources to promote state ideology. We aspire to empower Russian children to become informed and independent citizens, capable of forming their own perspectives and making well-informed decisions.
